Tee Vee Bee A Singing Competition 2011

Same like last year, I join the same competition again. This year's competition was held earlier than expected. The competition was pretty short for this year as well, with only 1 heats, 1 semis and the finals. Well, I didn't get the chance to get into finals this year, all thanks to slacking as I didn't do much preparation for it and also I had sore throat again during the period. 

You gain something from things you lost. Well, it's true, I get to know a few great friends from the competition. This year, I became the dancers for Kevin for the song "I'm Back". Preparation for the dance was quite rush and we only had like less than one week to practice. But in the end, we didn't get to perform the dance because Kevin did a superb job for his first round and got straight into round three. We were all quite worried when his name was not called when the names for round 2 was announced but thank god everything turned out well. The You Ask “A”

This had been one of the country that I am longing to visit and had a chance this year when ION GNSS presented me with a student prize, meaning that the conference organizers will cover my expenses. This year’s conference was held from the 21st till 23rd September 2010 at Portland, Oregon. There were lots of drama in this trip with the first one occurring just before my flight.
Just hours before my first United flight to San Francisco, an iPhone push notification from my Trip Case App popped up informing me that my flight has been cancelled. Panicking that I might miss my presentation, I rushed to University and then to the travel agent to ask about the situation of my flight but ended with nothing as this problem will be handled by the airline itself. So I headed off to the airport and had a glance at the departure information monitor. To my surprise there were check-in counters available so i thought an alternative flight on the same day was arranged for us but ended up that the check-in counters were trying to arrange for an overnight stay at a nearby hotel and changing our flights schedule. A quick ask and the guy at the service counter told me that the reason my flight was cancel was because the pilot was sick. Bad luck… but it earned me an additional day to prepare for my trip as up until the day before my flight, I was still rushing and printing out hotels reservations, travel plans etc. On that night, Vinda, Jane, Joon Wayn and I had a ‘leftover’ dinner at Vinda’s. Although leftovers, but still nice.
So the airline arranged for us to stay at Mercure Sydney Airport and the flight out to US at 10am the next day. The impression that I had for United Airlines was not that good from the start as few friends of mine who took United before complained about how rude the air steward/stewardess were and the in-flight entertainment systems was from the Jurassic era. With this flight cancellation, United impression just went from bad to worse.
The flight from Sydney to San Francisco was a normal and classic one. As expected there is only a shared screen for all passengers to watch but the service is still acceptable. There is also an advertising during the flight by Microsoft… renting out their new Zune media player.

Performing for Jade World Carnival

This is my first casual performance in Sydney, Australia after my TVB Sydney Singing Competition. I was initially asked to perform two songs but then due to time constraint, ended up performing only one song. Of the two songs, namely 木乃伊 and 遗憾, I chose to perform 木乃伊 as this is a dance song that we - April, Ervinda, Jin Chee, Joon Wayn and Lieya practiced, after all Jun Jie is still my idol lol. We started practising the dance for this song the week after Bodhi Nite ended so making this the shortest practice that I had so far for a dance song – one week :) Everything went quite well even with only one week practice as all dancers were really in sync except that I had a few pitching problem during my performance. Well there is always a start for everything and hopefully this will bring me more chances and hope that I can do better and got the chance to stunt the audience… uhmm in the positive sense of course. More performance for me please hehe :D I’ll do my best! Performing is always in my blood.

Bodni Nite 2010 – A Benchmark set

Another slow update and this is entry on the very Bodhi Nite which took place on the 28th August 2010. Many volunteers and effort placed into making this year’s a successful one especially by the choir team which, according to our dear Unibuds senior members, was one of the best there is in 30 years. The hard work really paid off, thanks to the wonderful members as well as the talented ‘heads’ namely Vinda, Lillian, Joon Wayn and Gilbert. It’s a joy to see and hear praises from writers and composers of the songs that we presented. Plus the song that me and Jane wrote went quite well. Everything come into place in the end. I suppose all the hard work of having to stay at the Unibuds library really paid off and the effort of arranging extra sessions for members who came in late and having several sessions work well as we understand that different people have different spare time as a uni student. Last but not least, a big thank you to all the members as well and I am glad that this year we have so many talented and helpful members as compared to previous years (that sort of makes our life easier as well lol). Okay that’s for the 2010 BodhiNite… till then :D
